Dr. Jones & Mr. Trump

Keeping Our Joneses Straight

When it comes to extremely common names such as “Bob” and “Jones,” it is imperative that we make sure we know which “Bob” and which “Jones” we are talking about. As I said before, there are three Doctors Bob Jones —

three generations of bob

1) Senior – The Founder (sitting on the bench in the above illustration)
2) Junior – the son, trained actor and speaker (left, behind his father)
3) The Third (the other one)

Is there a fourth Bob Jones? The answer is: yes, there is a Bob Jones IV —

And that’s all I’m going to say about that.

The Trump-less Forum

During the 2016 Presidential campaign, Bob Jones University, as an institution, never did officially endorse Donald J. Trump for President. I’m sure that Trump had his supporters at BJU, but there was no “official” endorsement or blessing given — much different than the 2012 Presidential race when Dr. Bob Jones III endorsed Mitt Romney.

There was no Donald Trump at the February 12, 2016 “Faith Family Forum” held in the Founder’s Memorial Amphitorium on the BJU campus where Bush, Cruz, Rubio, and Carson were the candidates of choice…

…and I found this odd because “The Founder,” Dr. Bob Jones, Sr. (who died in 1968), seems to have much in common with Donald J. Trump. Call me crazy, but I assumed there would be overwhelming Trump support at Faith Family Forum held on the campus of BJU.

Dr. Bob Jones, Sr. & Donald J. Trump: Commonalities

Tea Party rally against the Iran nuclear deal, Capitol Hill, Washington DC, America - 09 Sep 2015

Neither consume alcohol.

Both have married more than once.

They have bankruptcy in common.

They have mixed political party affiliations in common.

Both men have used their respective positions to influence politicians.

Jones & Trump are authors.

Both have (had) similar views on immigration & its effects.

Jones & Trump have issues with The Pope.

Jones: “No doubt the problem is with you!”
Trump: “You’re fired!”

Both men have reputations as tyrants in the way they run their businesses.

Both are boisterous speakers, known for their energy in front of a crowd.

Reviving or making America great – a common theme.

Jones: “Builder of Bridges”
Trump: “Build the wall!”

Both stand or stood without apology.

Both men started colleges, universities, based on their name and reputation.

Odd that Donald Trump, now President of the United States, did not have much, if any, BJU support.

It’s a mystery.
